New York City
A couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to travel to New York for some good ol’ company training. I arrived on an overcast Sunday afternoon and stayed until the following Sunday.

Training was Monday through Friday, but I was able to stay over the following weekend while Anne joined me for a quick vacation.
It was a very successful trip. Training was great, and I was able to start a project using my training the week I returned to the office, a nice change of pace.
As for sightseeing, I did a lot of it. I’m fairly happy I didn’t have anyone there with me during the week, because no one would have put up with the amount of aimless walking I did. Training started at 9:30 and ended at 5, so I was able to find plenty of time to experience the city before and after training every day.
Because my father has pounded the idea of “planning ahead” into my skull for years, I had a very detailed list of sights I wanted to see while I was there. I missed two of them. Walking the Brooklyn Bridge and walking inside Central Park [I made it around the exterior a couple of times while walking around at night, but never made it down there during the day].
So, my list of checked-off to-do’s is as follows:
- Statue of Liberty
- Empire State Building
- Take a train out of Grand Central Station
- Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree and Skating Rink
- Chrysler Building
- Ride the Staten Island Ferry
- Ellis Island
- Ride the subway
- Museum of Natural History
- The Guggenheim [exterior only, it closed at 6]
- The Metropolitan Museum [exterior only, it closed at 6]
- Walk through Battery Park
- Flatiron Building
- New York Stock Exchange
- World Trade Center Area
- FAO Schwartz
- NBC Studios
- Radio City Music Hall
- See a Broadway Play
- Walk through Times Square
- See a game at Madison Square Garden
